Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve
With excavated finds from the Indus Valley Civilization and Mesopotamia, the Archaeological site at Ras al Jinz is one of Oman’ most important contributors to the understanding of Oman’s history. Located within the main Turtle Reserve at Ras al Jinz are the remains of settlements from over 4,300 years ago. Pottery from the Indus valley suggests an evolved trade system, which not only communicated over vast distance, but also enabled fragile objects to be traded. The remains of Bitumen, whose closes source was in Mesopotamia, with the clear impression of a woven mat, probably used to waterproof a boat, suggests the type of boat used in this commerce.
