Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque
The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque was inaugurated in 2001 on the orders of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, may his soul rest in peace. This architectural masterpiece was built with nearly 300,000 tons of Indian sandstone. The mosque has a magnificent dome that stands 50 meters tall and five minarets that represent the Five Pillars of Islam. It also holds the world's second-largest hand-woven Persian carpet. The main prayer hall can hold roughly 6,500 worshippers, but the mosque's total capacity is around 20,000 people. Non-Muslim visitors are welcome from Saturday to Thursday between 8:00 and 11:00 a.m., as long as they dress modestly. If necessary, appropriate coverings can be provided on-site. An admission fee of 8 Omani Riyals is paid, and all facilities are properly equipped to serve guests of all types, including those with special requirements.
