Al Buraimi

Praised by all who have seen it.

Information

Trade is the primary driver of Al Buraimi's economy, which is supplemented by agriculture, tourism, and services. The governorate is strategically positioned and has a diversified geological topography that includes mountains, deserts, and plains. The Western Hajar Mountains, in particular, stand out as a remarkable natural feature with valuable geological resources. In terms of climate, Al Buraimi Governorate experiences scorching desert conditions in the summer and temperate temperatures in the winter, with minimal rain throughout the year. It is well-known for its historical sites, which showcase Oman's rich legacy. Al Hillah Fort is distinguished by its traditional Omani architectural style, whilst Al Khandak Fort, which dates to the nineteenth century, has a defensive trench that emphasizes its strategic importance. The old Murajib Fort, erected during the time of Al Sultan Sultan bin Ahmed, is now a popular tourist destination in the Hafeet district. Mahdah Wilayat also contains Bayt Al Nad Fort, the country's oldest and largest fortification. Furthermore, the medieval settlement of Hamasa is well-known for its lively trading history and archaeological value. An historic mosque reported to be over 300 years old can be found in the nearby community of Al Khuwairij. In Wasit, tourists can find a refreshing falaj (irrigation canal) as well as an archeological site dating back to the second millennium BCE. Among the region's important water systems are the Sa'arah Falaj, which was recently restored after a 15-year hiatus, and the Mahdah Oasis Falaj, which exemplifies excellent community participation. The village of Mish is also known for its booming agriculture, two water sources (one sulfuric and one fresh), and the Mish Dam, which is critical to water sustainability. Finally, the Al Buraimi Gate represents a modern civic identity that combines legacy and progress, acting as a cultural and developmental link between Oman's rich history and its bright future.
